Position: Senior Process Development Engineer

XeroCoat is a solar energy optical coating start-up that has developed a unique and low cost method of producing antireflection surfaces for solar panels and other glass and plastic substrates.  The Senior Process Development Engineer will join an international, entrepreneurial team of scientists, chemists and engineers who are experts in the field of solar and optical coatings, and will take the lead to design and implement custom equipment to help bring XeroCoat technology to market. 

As a highly visible member of the engineering team, the Senior Process Engineer will work with other cross-functional groups such as R&D, manufacturing, and product marketing, to develop next generation process modules on a lab scale, and then taking those designs into the manufacturing environment.

Description: Develop processes and hardware for manufacturing anti-reflection coatings on glass. These coatings will be used to enhance the throughput of solar panels and other devices. The ideal candidate will have a background in thin film coatings and equipment.  Experience with roll coating and spray coating is desired.

Responsibilities:

• Lead develop of new manufacturing processes that drive improvements in the production of AR coated glass
• Manage projects related to the commercialization of all processes related to the application of AR coating on glass
• Characterize and optimize processes for stability, performance, reliability and cost
• Interface with customers and aide equipment startup
• Identify opportunities for improvements in equipment design
• Interact with equipment engineers and suppliers to implement commercial coating equipment
• Using statistical methods identify parameters for manufacturing scale-up and carry out scale-up experiments
• Travel will be required to work with equipment vendors and customers

Requirements:

• Minimum of a BS in Engineering or Physical Sciences
• 5+ years experience in process and/or equipment development
• Knowledge of Engineering Techniques and Practices
• Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes
• Knowledge of statistical and modeling computer applications
• Able to analyze complex problems and develop solutions or approaches to resolve
• Able to effectively communicate technical results

Position: Senior Process Technician

XeroCoat, Inc. is an optical coating technology company with a patented low-cost method of producing antireflection coatings for solar panels and other glass or plastic substrates.  XeroCoat operates an R&D and pilot line at its Redwood City, California facility, as well as maintains a research group at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.  It is currently looking to add process technician capabilities to operate its pilot line and R&D facilities in Redwood City.

Job Description:

This is an opportunity for an experienced Process Technician, with a solid background working with industrial-scale coating equipment, to become a part of a fast-paced start up team operating a pilot production line performing processes optimization studies.  Responsibilities include supporting process and product engineering functions, performing experiments, collecting data, documenting results and implementing statistical process controls. Equipment includes industrial glass washer, solvent-based coating equipment, chemical curing systems, and optical measuring equipment.

• Sets up equipment, mixes chemicals and runs coating studies under engineering supervision.
• Assists with experimental design, collects data, maintains appropriate logs, and provides oral and/or written reports of results.
• Qualifies equipment for daily production and after equipment maintenance procedures.
• Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
• Willing and able to do: physical work involving transport and lifting large sheets of glass; operating and maintaining industrial equipment; and working around various liquid and gaseous chemistries.

Qualifications:

• AA degree in a technical field a minimum
• 5 years process related industrial experience
• Experience in developing new process technologies
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC)
• Familiarity with major manufacturing processes and equipment
• Experience with optical coating equipment and/or products a plus
• Ability to lift 50 lbs of weight on a regular basis
